Mashudu Nevhutalu

South Africa

Mashudu Nevhutalu is a young South African artist from Johannesburg who recently completed his degree in painting and printmaking at the Tshwane University of Technology.  Interested in how human memory works and inspired by old family photographs, his vivid Warhol-esque screenprints delve into the theme of nostalgia, and the ways in which we retain the most important parts of a memory.  The subjects in Mashudu’s art, with their quiet awareness of the camera’s lens, have a universal quality; in some way, they are figures that we can all relate to. Mashudu was a finalist in the Sasol New Signatures competition (2014), and is a finalist in the 2016 SA Taxi Art Award Competition.
